Sixth grade students at McMahon School will celebrate "Space Day" by bringing a little bit of "space" to Holyoke, Massachusetts. They will share their studies of the Sun-Earth-Moon system within the universe, the planets and other objects in space and the future of space travel with their families and the younger students in the school. A few "Space Day" projects include the planning and construction of an "Outpost on the Moon" using recyclable materials and the construction of a "Solar Fountain" out in the school courtyard culminating with a visit to the Christa McAuliffe Center where students will participate in a mission simulation to the planet Mars. Wren Hollow Elementary, in the Parkway School District in suburban St. Louis County, MO, will be celebrating its 9th annual Space Day celebration on Friday, May 9!
For this event, a fifth grade class "spaces out" throughout the school, teaching space-related mini-lessons to other classes throughout the school. Topics covered include moon phases(with Oreos!), a tour of the solar system, the mythological stories behind some constellations -- plus many more classes.
In conjunction with the school-wide classes, another group of students will be giving "star tours" in the portable Star Lab planetarium. Organization Type: school district We expect 400 participants for this event |
